Friday 28th January was a glittering night at the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton when many of the South’s amateur theatre world gathered for the Daily Echo’s annual Curtain Call Awards.
Guest star Graham Cole, best known as The Bill’s PC Tony Stamp, handed out the prizes in each of 37 categories. Nominations for awards had been decided by a team of reviewers who travelled the length and breadth of the county and further afield – taking a look at the best amateur theatre has to offer.
The award winning Oasis Youth Theatre production One million to - STOP THE TRAFFIK received three award nominations and after a nail-biting evening, carried off the Youth Ensemble Award.
This play under the leadership of renowned playwright and OYT Director Mark Wheeller had been officially commissioned by the STOP THE TRAFFIK organisation. STOP THE TRAFFIK is a global charity whose work is very much to bring a halt to the crime of human trafficking, which in the UK alone is worth an estimated £275 million per year. The Oasis Youth Theatre won the English Final of the All - England Theatre Festival with the production in June 2010.
Look out for the next OYT production, Mitchell's Wings, coming to the Oasis Academy Lord's Hill soon
