Children and parents from Sinclair Primary School and Shirley Warren Primary school were treated to a Rescue Boat ride on Southampton Water as a prize for winning the Oasis Academy Model Boat Building Competition
On the evening of Thursday 8th July, 9 children and 6 adults were given the opportunity to visit the League of Venturers Search and Rescue operation station at Lepe Beach and to ride in their Rescue Boat.
Before embarking, everyone was briefed on some basic sea safety rules and kitted out in life jackets. The ride included picking up a bit of speed in Southampton Water and taking the boat through the lock gates into Hythe Marina Village.
The League of Venturers Search and Rescue Organisation, based at Lepe Beach is a registered charity and a youth organisation. It is dedicated to 'Helping People and Animals in Danger or Distress on Land and Sea'. Teenagers can join the group from 13 years of age and will learn not only sea skills but also First Aid.
