The award winning Oasis Youth Theatre under the leadership of renowned playwright Mark Wheeller have been officially commissioned by STOP THE TRAFFIK to write, produce and perform the world premiere of ‘One Million to - STOP THE TRAFFIK’.
STOP THE TRAFFIK is a global charity whose work is very much to bring a halt to the crime of human trafficking, which in the UK alone is worth an estimated £275 million per year.
Such is the growing interest in this production that the Avalon Group decided to donate money to assist in the production costs.
Mark Wheeller said, “This is quite possibly the most powerful play I have written. To see the cast climb into their roles with such passion and emotion is wonderful, and on this journey it has taught us a lot about how people should not be bought and sold. It is an honour to have been asked to write and perform this, and we do hope it has an impact on people as they view it.”
Steve Chalke MBE, UN.GIFT Special Advisor on Community Action against Human Trafficking, and Chair of STOP THE TRAFFIK said “STOP THE TRAFFIK is all about people taking action in their communities to stop the sale of people worldwide. These young people have done just that. They not only learnt about the issue and realised something needed to be done but they have created a ground-breaking play that brings this story to others. Southampton should be proud of the way their young people are taking this issue seriously and enabling Southampton to be a place that fights to stop the traffik.”
‘One Million to - STOP THE TRAFFIK’ tells the true stories of people who have been trafficked across the world, including the UK. It has some scenes that may be unsuitable for those under the age of 13.
Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
