Results Improve yet again

ACADEMY RESULTS INCREASE FOR A SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

The most significant increase can be seen in English as a stand-alone subject, where figures have jumped from 43% last year to 58% this year, a rise of 15%.

These figures are significantly above those suggested by the levels at which the students arrived at the school. In the case of 5+ A* - C grades including English and Maths, almost double what would be expected by the top 25% of similar schools. The progress students have made has been remarkable.

Principal of the Academy, Ian Golding said, “We are thrilled to have achieved even better results this year with a group who appeared weaker on paper. These results demonstrate that the hard work and determination of staff and students has paid off. They have chosen not to settle for the average but are striving constantly to do something remarkable. As the Academy looks forward to moving into our new building in less than a year, our future looks bright. However, we are not finished yet, we remain totally committed to driving up standards relentlessly year on year. We want to transform the aspirations and achievement of all of our students and recognise this is just one small step along that path.”

Mohammed Darwish came to the UK three years ago following the traumatic death of his family in Afghanistan. Mohammed joined the Academy after a difficult period in another Southampton school. In September 2010 Mohammed fully expected to start Year 10, however the Home Office changed the age on his paperwork. This meant that Mohammed would join Year 11 undertaking his exam courses in two and a half terms. All Mohammed’s hard work has now payed off, he has achieved 9 GCSE grades at C or better, including his Maths and English. The future looks bright for Mohammed he is now living in a settled placement and he will be starting at college on AS courses this September.

DAN AVERY scored A* in Art, A grades in Maths and Science and B grades in English, English Literature and ICT. In addition, he successfully completed the Creative Arts and Media Diploma. Dan was also selected to compete in the English Schools Hammer Throwing Championship and has successfully represented Hampshire in his sport.

Callum Watts, Head Boy, also completed the demanding Creative Arts and Media Diploma and scored an A and B grades in English, Maths, Science and Drama. Callum has been a member of Oasis Youth theatre for a number of years and has taken part in several productions including most recently, ‘Mitchell’s Wings.’

Mr Golding added, “Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill is an exciting place to be, every major indicator is showing an improvement, our staff remain hugely committed and students are starting to believe that success should be the norm. Our Year 10s have already achieved some incredible results in early entry GCSEs demonstrating their commitment to doing their very best. With fantastic new facilities in the new build, we look forward to an inspiring future and all that this involves.”

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
