| One Million to - STOP THE TRAFFIK the latest play from internationally acclaimed OYT (Oasis Youth Theatre) was premièred in front of a host of dignitaries including the STOP THE TRAFFIK team and Steve Chalke MBE founder of Oasis Community Learning. The play, written by Executive Director of Arts at the Academy Mark Wheeller, tells the amazing story of the development of this global movement. Using the words of Phil Lane (co-founder of STOP THE TRAFFIK) and testimony from trafficked people, it explores some of the stories which inspired the birth of the movement. It reveals their determination to get the one million signatures they promised which would enable them to go to the United Nations and call on governments to fight trafficking. The play which is to be published by dbda this summer is being entered for the All England Theatre Festival and is being performed in Round 1 on the 27th March. It has already received many plaudits including this from the Daily Echo “Curtain Call Awards” reviewer: “OYT’s new work is a play with a message which it manages to convey with stunning impact. Tough, heart rending material tacked with sensitivity but without pulling any punches. A tremendous piece of Theatre.” Karen Robson The hour long show was spellbinding and disturbing. Powerful, disturbing, emotional – it was one of the best productions I have seen in a long time, anywhere. Ian Murray Editor of the Daily Echo Phil Lane... the real Phil Lane: It was a privilege to be at the premier of such a powerful, passionate and well acted play on human trafficking. The level of performance was stunning and the energy that came from it was overwhelming. It was amazing to see how physical performance, words and video images could come together to form an integrated whole. Most of all, it was moving to see how the cast and production team had become passionate to see human trafficking come to an end. This play will communicate that passion to everyone who sees it. It has been a privilege to be associated with OYT and to be part of this story. Bex Keer from STOP THE TRAFFIK: Just got home after an incredible evening. What to say? All of your talent and passion bubbles over. THANK YOU for telling all the stories so sensitively and powerfully. THANK YOU for passing on the baton and asking your audience to act & play their part in bringing an end trafficking. You rock x |
