No, the Academy has an inclusive admissions policy that means that families of faith or no faith are very welcome to apply.

How many Academies have you opened?

Oasis Community Learning opened its first 3 Academies in September 2007; in Enfield, Immingham and Grimsby. We now have over 49 Academies and expect to grow further in the future.

Why do we wear a formal uniform?

We ask our students to wear a formal uniform for a number of reasons.  We believe that learning is a serious business and as such our students need to take it seriously. We think that a strict uniform sets the right tone for working. We do not think that wearing a uniform makes a student smarter, but we do think that putting a uniform on correctly in the morning is an important act of compliance; it tells Academy staff, other students and members of the public that they will do the right thing. The final reason for wearing a uniform is that it is a great leveller; everyone looks the same regardless of whether or not they have the right pair of trainers at home.

What colour is the uniform?

Please see our uniform guidance page.

Where can I get the uniform?

The branded aspects of our uniform can be purchased from Skoolkit.

Are students allowed to wear trainers instead of shoes?

No

Are tracksuit trousers allowed in PE? Not all kids are comfortable wearing shorts.

There will be an option for students to wear tracksuit trousers. They must be black.

Why does the school tie have stripes?

The tie includes a section of the circle of inclusion; this is an important part of our identity as a group.

What is the Academy policy on mobile phones?

The Academy realises that many parents want their children to have a mobile phone for safety reasons. Students are allowed to bring their phones to the Academy site, but they must not be seen or heard. If a student is using a phone, the phone will be confiscated by the teacher or member of staff and returned at the end of the day.  The Academy cannot take responsibility for devices that are lost or damaged by other students.

How do the children sign up for extra-curricular activities?

Each student will have the chance to sign up and be involved in what we call the Enrichment program. Students will have the chance to sign up to these by contacting the member of staff who runs the activity. Information on available activities are displayed around the Academy.

What is the Academy policy on students going on holiday during term time?

In accordance with government and local authority guidelines we do not authorise leave of absence for family holidays during term time for any year group.

Does the Academy have a plan to open a Sixth Form?

At this moment in time we do not have any plans to open a Sixth Form, although most Oasis Academies do run such a provision. The Academy works very closely with all the colleges in the city and believes that the broad provision offered to student’s post 16 is of a high quality.

Where do most students go on to college?

The vast majority of our students now go on to college, however a small number gain apprenticeships and some obtain full time employment. Richard Tauntons’ College and City College are the most popular destination for students although some do travel to attend Barton Peverill or Sparsholt College.

Are students allowed off-site at lunchtime?

Students are not allowed off-site at lunchtime. However, on rare occasions the Principal may make an allowance for a fixed period.

Are parents allowed to drop off and collect students from the main car park?

We would like to encourage parents to drop off/collect their children using the rugby club car park next to the Academy. It is a very short walk from this car park to the main entrance. However, we recognise that some students have specific physical needs that require them to be dropped close to the building, this is always acceptable.

Who should I talk to about my child's special educational needs?

Parents should contact the main Academy switchboard and ask to speak to our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO).
