The LiFe tutor sessions
“Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. It will not only improve your life; it will improve the lives of all those around you”
We also promote dedicated LiFe tutor sessions that seek to ensure that all students have access to a knowledge rich scheme of work to develop strength of character. This curriculum includes key opportunities to model and showcase the Oasis 9 Habits, think hard about specific societal events (current and past), and understand that there is a world beyond our school and location; building life knowledge that underpins a wider identity. Lord’s Hill LiFe sessions are delivered by tutors, teachers and outside speakers (Solomon theatre company, PC Peacock) so that students may flourish to the best of their ability and are shown the benefits of a well-informed future.
All curriculum content, regardless of subject, should teach the skills needed to succeed and flourish in our society today. Alongside dedicated weekly hour-long sessions that straddle the PSHE curriculum (personal, social, health and economic),SMSC curriculum (spiritual, moral, social and cultural) and RSE curriculum (relationships and sex education), tutor time activities build society, community and self-belief to ensure that all students can grow into well-rounded global citizens.
From September 2019, schools will follow a new relationships and sex education and health education curriculum. From September 2020, they will be required by law to follow it. Primary-age children must be taught about positive relationships and respect for others, and how these are linked to promoting good mental health and well-being. In addition, sex education will become mandatory at secondary level.
LiFe sessions broadly follow the curriculum map shown below that straddles three key themes: Health and Wellbeing, Living in the Wider World and Relationships. The map (taken from the well-respected PSHE Association) ensures that across all year groups there is ample opportunity to overlearn and embed key knowledge whilst providing opportunities to discuss and reflect on a variety of important topics.
