The Library

The Library is open at breaktimes, as well as after-school, for students to choose and exchange books, read quietly, study, or complete homework. Mr. Hickman is available to assist with book recommendations, research guidance, or any other library-related queries during this time.

For those who need additional study support, the Library runs a Homework Club every day after school from 3pm to 4pm, except on Fridays. Students are welcome to attend and complete their set homework in a quiet, focused environment with resources on hand. Additionally, a Creative Writing Club is held on Tuesdays after school, where students can explore and develop their writing skills in a supportive and inspiring atmosphere.

The Careers Information section is available for students to explore post-school opportunities, ensuring they are well-prepared for the future.

As part of Oasis Academy Lord's Hill’s innovative Horizons programme, students have access to a vast online library, available both at home and in school through their iPads. With the 'AccessIt' app, which is preloaded on every student's iPad, they can explore thousands of books, eBooks, and audiobooks at their convenience, ensuring there is something for every reader.

Online Library

Children in England are reported to read less frequently for pleasure outside of school than children in many other countries. 

But reading makes you:

• Smarter, developing your vocabulary and comprehension: reading teaches us words that enable us to better express ourselves.
• Develops empathy and resilience: reading allows us to step into someone else's shoes and experiences, allowing us to better understand and communicate with each other.
• Nurtures mental health and well being: children who do not read regularly are at more risk of developing mental health problems later in life, including depression, anxiety and aggression.
• Stronger! Studies have shown that those who read for pleasure have a greater ability to cope with difficult situations.
• Sleep better: giving your brain a good work out can help you to sleep better.
