The library is currently closed to students, however we continue our focus on reading via regular, timetabled reading lessons for years 7 to 10 inclusive, and a mobile library service to classrooms. Students are therefore expected to have a reading book at all times and to be completing the AR quizzes at home. For more information please contact the Academy Librarian, Miss Taggart, directly: email@example.com
We have a large and spacious library with 4000 books, study areas, soft seating areas, games and puzzles, and in excess of thirty computers and laptops. Opening hours are from 8am to 4:30pm (break and lunchtime only on Fridays), and the atmosphere is relaxed and productive. Break and lunch times are always busy with students completing homework, undertaking individual research, reading quietly or just browsing the latest ‘good reads’.
Our fiction collection includes the latest titles for children, such as John Green’s The Fault in our Stars, Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games trilogy and Zusak Markus’s The Book Thief. Collections are constantly being renewed to ensure that all students are supported and challenged to become enthusiastic, confident readers, no matter what their reading ability. We welcome book requests from students and “student recommendations”. The whole school reading comprehension programme “Accelerated Reader”, ensures that all students are choosing books appropriate to their reading level and within each level there is are a wide range of titles and genres from which to choose. Crucially this means students are easily able to choose books which are appropriate in terms of readability and interest.
A range of school activities are run in the library such as, shared reading, puzzles, quizzes and board games.
“Everyone should be able to wrap themselves in a good book!” That’s our aim here at Oasis Academy Lord's Hill – to get the whole Academy reading, talking about reading and then reading some more!
