At Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill, we believe in a broad and balanced curriculum tailored to the needs of students.
The Academy operates a one-week timetable cycle, with five sixty minute lessons each day. To support effective teaching, students are set in English, Mathematics and Science based on the prior and current attainment. On a Tuesday afternoon all students in the Academy follow a Citizenship and Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) course with their tutor.
In Year 7 and Year 8, students study a broad curriculum. Alongside developing a deep understanding of English, Mathematics and Science, students are taught an exciting range of other subjects. These are:
Geography, History, a Language, PE, Religious Education, Art, Dance, Drama, Music, and Technology (including Design & Technology, Graphics, Food & Textiles).
In Year 9, students begin to choose aspects of their curriculum. All students continue to study English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, a Language and PE. In addition, students start to specialise by choosing two ‘elective’ choices. The type of subjects offered are:
Art, Dance, Design & Technology, Drama, Food (Hospitality), Graphics, Music and Sport
We believe that it is essential to ensure that students are on the correct courses and curriculum pathways are matched carefully to student needs.
All students study for GCSEs in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Combined Science. All students will then choose a number of subjects which run over the two years. The number of options available is dependent on the pathway an individual will follow. The type of subjects offered are:
Humanities - Geography, History
Languages – French, Spanish
Arts – Art, Dance, Drama, Music
Technical Awards – Engineering, Hospitality, Health and Social Care
Other subjects, such as Media Studies, may also be offered.
Gifted & Talented
The Academy believes that all young people are unique individuals with gifting and talents. However, we also know that some students show particular aptitudes, abilities or skills that could be beyond that of their peers. Teachers within the Academy are charged with meeting the needs of all students, this is an inclusion issue. Students designated as gifted or talented are identified by teachers and regularly monitored. Our curriculum is organised in a way that allows all students to thrive regardless of their needs.
We have worked with a variety of organisations including IntoUniversity to support students in their learning.
