On Tuesday 16th June, Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill proudly took a team of Year 7 and 8 students to compete in the City Athletics Championships at Southampton Sports Centre. Accompanied by Mr Cook, Miss Williams, and Saints Champion Josh Ellis, the team represented the academy with enthusiasm, determination, and outstanding sportsmanship.
Students from both year groups competed across a wide range of events, including running races, throwing disciplines, jumping events, and relays. Throughout the day, the team demonstrated excellent commitment and resilience, with several impressive performances resulting in a total of nine finals. A fantastic achievement against strong competition from schools across the city.
For many, this was their first experience of competing in an athletics event against other schools, yet they embraced the challenge with confidence and determination, pushing themselves to perform at their very best.
Although the event itself does not include official awards, the staff at Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill were keen to recognise the tremendous effort and attitude shown by the team. During the Year 7 & 8 assembly on Thursday, students were presented with certificates, receiving a well-deserved round of applause from their peers in celebration of their achievements.
We are incredibly proud of all the students who took part and look forward to seeing their continued success in future sporting events.
